Elderly man bailed after allegedly entering Day Lewis pharmacy with gun

An 83-year-old man who was arrested by armed police officers after allegedly entering a branch of Day Lewis on the Isle of Wight with a gun has been bailed while investigations continue.

Armed officers descended on the pharmacy on Friday afternoon after Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary received reports that an elderly man had gone into the store in Wootton Bridge with the weapon, according to Island Echo.

Police closed a nearby road as they searched for the man, who had disappeared by the time officers got to the pharmacy. Police sent a unit to his home address but there was no sight of him.

It was just after 8.15pm that evening when police found the man near Seaclose Park in Newport, some three miles away.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, according to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, and bailed until July 11.

Independent Community Pharmacist has contacted Day Lewis for comment.
